Sportsmen Against Hunger
by Dan Hertzog
This past year was
a wonderful year for donations to the Kansas City Community
Kitchen. The KC-SCI set a goal for 6000 pounds of wild game
meat, and with the help from the club membership, we achieved
this goal. We worked with the Missouri Department of
Conservation on the cost of processing deer harvested in the
urban hunt. This alone produced 1500 pounds of venison for
the needy. Many members contacted me to pickup their donation
or dropped it off themselves. I also received a substantial
amount of meat from Hedge Hollow Ranch’s customers. Many of
the hunters from out of state had limited space, so they
donated the rest of their harvest to our program.
Due to the
fantastic efforts of our club, International presented Bob
Bazin with a club achievement award for the 6000 pounds of
meat we donated this year. My hat’s off to everyone, and I
challenge you to surpass this number this year!
